Beat Blur with a Texture

Do you have a picture that’s just a bit out of focus? Don’t delete it!
Use a texture to hide the blur.

For this picture, I first treated the colors with the CoffeeShop Attic Vintage Free Action. Then, I brought in the texture as a new layer. To do this:
- Open a texture as a separate file.
- Right click on the texture layer and select Duplicate.
- Change the Destination Document to the picture you are editing.
- Hit OK.
- Change the new texture layer’s blending mode to Soft Light, and adjust its size and opacity to taste.
I found the grunge texture (with built-in vignette) at CG Textures, which is free texture warehouse. Flickr is also a great source of textures – use tags to search. Before you use a texture created by someone else, make sure and check the licensing so that’s you’ll know whether you need to give the creator credit or can use the photo commercially.
Enjoy! And don’t give up on those blurry pictures!
