It’s easy to get stuck in a photographic rut. I tend to have bursts of inspiration, during which I produce large amounts of photographs I love and then… fall into a lull. During the lull, I still capture regularly, but there is sometimes a feeling that I’m in need of a change, something different to excite my photographic eye.
When this happens to you, just go on a photowalk around your neighborhood.
- Step outside and walk with your camera.
- Drive down the street and then walk with your camera.
- You don’t have to find a tourist spot, a waterfall, or a marked lookout area to capture brilliant shots.
Birthday parties and weddings are fine, but even a walk through your neighborhood can grab you some new angles and unique visions that you weren’t noticing as you drove by on your way to work every day. Take as many photographs as possible, from vantage points you normally wouldn’t bother with.
Here are shots from a recent photo walk through my own neighborhood.
So get out of your rut with the most simple tip:
Get out and shoot.
