If you admire the look of professional photos, but can’t afford the price tag, here are some tips for getting amazing photos with your own camera from Katherine Marie Photography.
Tip #1: Put them IN/ON things – All those adorable baby photos that you see and love have baby perfectly poised on interesting props. Scour your home for items you can use in interesting ways.
Tip #6: Try it in Black & White – Take your photo from Ho-Hum to How’d She Do That? with a quick color change. Pro Tip: Black & White photography will also help camouflage baby acne and blotchy skin.
For more tips, check out the article at Katherine Marie Photography, or the great synopsis at Kids Stuff World.
p.s. Katherine also suggests reading Nick Kelsh’s “How to Photograph Your Baby” and I heartily agree! I got this book years before I had children, but I love it, and it taught me how to take great photos of anything! It would make a fabulous Mother’s Day or baby shower gift.

These tips are great! When my daughter was born, I put a white towel over our kitchen table and I had something behind her (a box?) that I also covered with a white towel. I put her in the “froggy” position, like the picture above, except she was sleeping, with her sweet lips parted just a bit. I was delighted with the pictures. Best I’ve ever taken, before or since.
