When you push the shutter button you are freezing a moment in time. A split second that will never happen again is captured. When it comes to photography
“time” has a lot to do with the art and process.
Photographers Are Always Thinking About Timing
- time of the year.
- time of day for light.
- time you push your finger down on the shutter button.
Many of us will spend a lot of time waiting for the exact moment to capture a shot, waiting for a baby to smile or for the sun to be at just the right spot. And how great does it feel to know that you got it?
A Few Tips on How to Use Time and Timing in Your Photography
- The best time to take a photo is the first time you see it. To capture this way, spontaneously, always have your camera with you. The opportunity may not be there later.
- When shooting Action Shots you want to freeze a moment that maybe happening very quickly. Make sure you have your camera set to the shortest exposure possible.
- Remember the “golden hour” is the best time for sunlight in outdoor photos. The “golden hour” is one hour after sunrise and one hour before sunset.
- When trying to capture animals in the wild, try to observe their action and repeated patterns. This way you can anticipate when to shoot.
- Timing a moving object can be difficult as well. Use a long shutter speed and, as the subject moves in front of you, pan your camera along with it. This will give you a focused subject and a blurred background.
Time is an important element for every photographer, and something you can use to your advantage. Remember this, whether you are waiting patiently, or shooting quickly, for the right shot.
