You work so hard on making the perfect jack-o-lantern every year but photographing it can be a little tricky. Trying to find the right balance between light and candle light inside the pumpkin is tough.

Here are a few tips to get some great photos of your spooky (or silly) carved pumpkins.

• Try diffusing the light you use by covering your flash with colored cellophane. This can give you a nice glow.
• If diffused light is too bright then use no flash at all.
• Use more than one candle inside your pumpkin for more light.
• Be prepared to try many different shots and exposure settings.
• Take your photo at dusk and not when it is too dark outside.
• Photograph your pumpkin right after carving and before any mouths or eyes or noses start to fade.
• Set your camera down or use a tri-pod to get a crisp clear photo.
