Remember how excited you would get as a child when your class got to go on a school field trip? The anticipation would build for weeks. You would be excited because you were getting out of the classroom and would get to see something new and explore new worlds. Just because you have grown up and have a family of your own does not mean you have to give up those adventurous field trips. Give yourself permission to take a break from your everyday life and reward yourself with a Photo Field Trip.
Take your camera for a walk around your neighborhood; go capture the beauty of your favorite place or get really adventurous and take a road trip some place new.
I usually take Photo Field Trips every few months close to home and then I participate annually in Scott Kelby’s World Wide Photo Walk.
Tips for your Photo Field Trip:
Capture the People
- While exploring new locations, scout out a new location for your next family photo.
- Tell the whole story. We all love getting close ups but once in a while, zoom out and capture the details of the story.
- Instead of posing your subjects, trying moving yourself and photographing the subject from a different angle or a new perspective.
Capture the Places
- When exploring new locations, try capturing the character of your destination. What details make this place unique or special to you?
- Seek out natural frames. Find unique artistic objects in your surroundings to frame out the subject of your photograph.
- Capture the environment. What’s happening around you?
Capture the Details
- Get closer.
- Look for inspiration everywhere.
- Make small adjustments.
Fall is a perfect time to get out and explore your neighborhood and experience the changing of the seasons with your camera. Be sure to come back and link up the photos from your Photo Field Trip.
