What I love about photography is that it captures a moment and a feeling… a split second in time, frozen forever. Sometimes you don’t need the whole scene to capture a moment.
Using my 15-300 mm lens I can zoom in on one spot. Some of my favorite pictures are of just a flower, or arm, legs or hands.
While attending a beautiful family wedding I took the above picture.
The shot captures their hands intertwined as a pastor joined them in marriage… holding on to each other, forever. If the picture had been of the whole scene, it would not have captured the beauty of their hands together – a classic symbol of becoming a married couple.
A close up can capture a personality as well.
This is one of the first pictures I took when I purchased my DSLR and it is still my favorite.
I had my daughter outside posing for traditional-type pictures in the front yard. I kneeled down and snapped just her legs. Despite the fact that her face is not in the picture, it really captures the personality of my little girl. The striped tights, the glittery red shoes, even the patchy grass and dandelions capture the uniqueness of my daughter.
Don’t be afraid of those close up.
Zoom on in and you may be surprised of what memories you capture.
