Helping Kids Learn Skiing Basics
Separate your skis so the bindings don’t get tangled.
Put one ski on at a time – have them press their heels down so they are all the way in.
One Ski Drills for Children
Before putting on the second ski use a drill called the Scooter Drill to help your children get used to gliding on the snow. It can be a new experience for them if they aren’t used to it.
Repeat the Scooter Drills with one ski on the other foot too so they get used to balancing on each foot.
Once they are accostumed to the Scooter Drill and gliding on the snow on a single ski, they are ready to try both skis.
Two Ski Skills for Kids to Learn
With both skis on, help your child get into a good position at the top of a slight hill. Let them glide to the bottom of the hill.
Next you’ll want to demonstrate the wedge (call it a pizza for fun for kids!) to slow down and stop. The skiing video helps demonstrate good positioning.
The next two-ski drill you want to teach your children is to turn on their skis. Check in with a ski instructor knowledgeable with teaching kids for additional tips and tricks!
