5 Organization Tips For Your Workbench/Toolbox

Organizing your workbench will help you to improve your productivity tenfold. Having a place to put everything when you are done keeps you from accidentally purchasing duplicate items or always having to search for what is needed.

Organization the workbench doesn’t have to It doesn’t have to be expensive either.

Here are some quick organization tips to get your workbench and tool box in tip top shape.

  1. Make use of a peg board or slot board  above your workbench. A pegboard can provide you with excellent storage and hanging options when it comes to organizing your workbench tools. You can even outline the tool to help with you putting things back in their proper place when you are done. Having a peg board also lets you customize your hanging space and make adjustments as you get new items and get rid of old items.
  2. Another way to organize your smaller items like screws and nails you can use canisters with magnets. Like what they use spices for. This is an upgrade from the old mason jars (those still works also). The canisters usually have see through lids so you can see what is inside. But if you do not have see through lids you can take a picture  of what is inside or write on the outside what is inside so that you can identify the contents. Instead of having a peg board above your workbench you can install a metal sheet so that you can stick the magnetized canisters onto the board.
  3. You also want to utilize the space up under your workbench. If your workbench has shelves underneath you can put like items together in plastic bins. You can also use milk crates if you have enough space under your workbench to store larger items like drills and such.
  4. Another great tool to organize your workbench are plastic drawers. The kind that you would find in a Home Depot or Lowes or Wal-Mart. These plastic drawers come in all types of shapes and sizes. You can use them to corral small items like screws and nails to larger items like glue and putty. It will just depend on what size and how many drawers there are. This makes it great for sitting on the workbench top but not having a bunch of clutter around.
  5. It is much easier to organize a toolbox. Most all toolboxes come with different sized slots inside to organize all of your things. The key to getting and keeping your toolbox organized is to only put in your tool box what you need. You don’t want to have duplicates of all of your tools. This makes for a very cluttered existence. You want one of each type of tool and a variety of basics for everyday fix-its in your toolbox. The goal is to be able to close the box and find what you need in a hurry when the need arises. So keep like times together and your largest tools in the bottom of the toolbox. But remember only one of each.
