As the days become shorter and the temperatures cool, thoughts of cozying up in bed with a good book and cup of tea become stronger than ever.
Creating a warm and cozy bedroom doesn’t require a wood-burning fireplace, a few simple changes and you’ll have an oasis you’ll hate to leave.
We switch out our wardrobes when the seasons change, so why not our bedding? Since your bed is probably the most substantial piece of furniture in your bedroom, bedding can play a huge role in the look and feel of the space. Why not switch out lighter summer options for warmer linens in fall inspired colours. Rich fabrics like velvet and seasonal staples like plaid are great options. If you don’t feel like changing out all your bedding a few throw pillows in these fabrics and style can have a similar effect.
Since natural light becomes scarce in the winter months, lighting becomes more important than ever. The right lighting can dramatically change the feel of any space. Adding dimmers to your existing lighting is a great way to create a soft and cozy feel. Table lamps or wall sconces that cast a soft downward light are important for those nights when just one more page turns into nearly finishing the book!
Cooler temps mean adding layers to the way we dress, so again why not bring that into how you decorate your bedroom. Layering is a great way to add warmth to a space – layer a throw on the bed for added texture and extra warm when needed. Layering a beautiful sheepskin rug over a more traditional option instantly create a luxe feel while offering a lovely treat for your feet first thing in the morning.
And lastly, when thinking about warming up a space, we often turn to rich, dark colours, why not put them on the wall? Instantly a room feels cozier, warmer and dramatic. Nervous about committing to an intense paint colour? You can create a similar effect with dark bedding and window treatments.
How do you make your bedroom a cozy retreat for fall? I’d love to hear!
