What’s a celebration without colorful, fragrant flowers? If you’re like me, you love beautiful blooms…but might lack the know-how of bringing such beauty into your home for holiday gatherings. Also like me, you may not even know the right questions to ask a florist…Jennifer Cummins, owner of Beautiful Blooms by Jen, answers these questions and offers some wonderful suggestions on making your home holiday-sparkling-beautiful!
It’s holiday decorating time again and what better way to accent your home décor than with gorgeous flower arrangements to compliment?
Being a florist, we get to experience the seasons through the flowers that become available to us. Christmastime is a great time of the year because we are constantly being asked to create unique pieces to accessorize with a customer’s home. From traditional green and red to the more modern decors of jewel tones or stunning silver and white, we really get to extend our imaginations to create stunning and one-of-a-kind arrangements.
Communicating with your florist is the first step in creating floral pieces that coordinate with your décor. Make sure to inform your florist of which rooms your pieces will be going in.
Where will they be placed? Such as a dining room table, sideboard, or a mantle. Once we know where the piece will be going, we can determine the size of the arrangement.
Let your florist know what colors are in the room. Do you have some funky peacock blue throw pillows or a red accent wall? Let us know and we can incorporate something to accent those colors.
Be playful when picking out your Christmas floral arrangement. Instead of one long and low centerpiece, spice it up with cylinder vases of varying heights filled with different flowers and mixed with votive candles. This looks especially stunning if you stick with a variety of flowers in the same color palette such as all red or all white. Or try utilizing Christmas ornaments, fruit, or vegetables in the arrangement to bring in some different textures.
