When company comes to call, it is a good idea to have an area that can quickly transform into a sleeping nook. Creating such an area is easy to do when you are prepared and the room is decorated with metal wall decor, silver metal wall art and other stylish accessories. Use the ideas below to help you prepare for those unexpected guests who decide to spend the night.
Sleeping Area
If you do not have a separate guest room, company usually ends up sleeping in a family room or den. Make the sleeping nook a quiet area as far from the bustle of family life as possible. A sofa bed or chair can be positioned along the far side of the room, so that the guest can have as much privacy as possible.
Bedding
Store additional bedding for the futon, sleeper sofa or inflatable mattress in a storage cube or hassock in the room. This out of the way storage will help keep everything in one place and out of sight. When the guest leaves, the bedding can be placed back in the cube after being washed.
Privacy Screen
A privacy screen may seem a bit extreme, but it is a great extra touch. Keep a privacy screen folded in a corner of the room or extended behind the couch or futon. Displaying a screen in accordion fashion in a corner of the room adds depth and dimension; then it can be brought around to the front of the couch when needed for a guest. The screen does not need to block the entire bed or futon from view, but the added privacy it provides will give the illusion of a separate space designed just for guests.
Creating a sleeping nook for a guest takes a bit of pre-planning. The work done ahead of time will take the hassle out of accommodating unexpected guests. As any designed knows, it is important to plan for the unexpected.

My friend Tina always creates a wonderful sleeping nook for me when I visit. She hooks up a part of the family or living room with cozy comforters and pillows. When she’s done I feel like I’ve stayed at a quaint bed and breakfast. Her jasmine tea and homemade scones complete the vignette.
