Some DIY ideas for making your own Welcome Mat or outdoor rug-
- Visit your local home improvement store and ask if they have any leftover or small pieces of carpet or vinyl flooring. {Usually you can get pieces like that for a steal.}Vinyl scraps- Cut the piece to the desired shape, on the wrong side of the vinyl, stencil or hand paint the design of your choosing. Once your design is in place and dry, cover with a couple coats of a good outdoor clear sealer. You can also paint the top side of the vinyl if you seal it first with a good sander sealer paint.
Carpet Scraps- sisal works best, or a natural fiber rug- Using outdoor paint, again cut rug to desired shape, bind cut edges with duct tape, then stencil or hand paint your design on the rug. - Something that works great is to use an old rubber welcome mat as a stencil- roll paint on the top of the rubber mat then press onto carpet like you would if stamping with ink. Repeat pattern over and over.
You can even do these same ideas with rugs/vinyl that you may already have….recycling is always good idea.
With so many welcome mats and outdoor rugs to choose from, having a unique entry is easier than ever.
