The traditional rectangular dining table has new competition.  A recent trend of round tables in the dining room have been welcomed into homes with open arms.  I believe that the round dining table is here to stay:

• A round table fits a more casual lifestyle.
• Many homes are opting out of a formal dining room for a more open floor plan.  Many times a round table can be tucked into a corner of a larger family room for function and style.
• If a formal dining room is present, it is often a small room which could accommodate a round table.
• Large formal dinner parties are being replaced with a less formal social gatherings.
• Rounded couch-style bench seating for round tables allow the dining table to double as a “formal” sitting area.
• All guests can see each other and conversations can more easily include everyone.

Round tables have worked for a very long time in the kitchen and now are moving on up to the dining room.
