If you are like me, one of the hardest things to make look nice….are the bookcases in my home. I love to see a well accessorized bookcase. It makes me want to run home and fix mine.
Here are a few tips I’ve learned over the years-
THE BOOKS-
- Don’t overload the shelves with books-
- They all don’t need to be standing, stack some books vertically, you can even us a stack of books for a bookend….to hold up other books.
- Try not to line up the books shelf after shelf.
- Take the book covers off.

The Accessories-
- Collections of art, baskets, pottery, etc. add interest.
- Stagger the height.
- Use old numbers; one, three and five items works very well.
- Add light to your shelves, like a small lamp, or mirrors.
- Don’t be afraid to change out the accessories from time to time.
- Create a focal point for each shelf
- Lining the back of the shelf with wallpaper or fabric; add texture and interest.

A Bookcase doesn’t need to be just used in the office or Library- finding an unusual use for a bookcase can be lots of fun. Take this bookcase, used to hold laundry supplies.
Take you time and enjoy the design process….once finished, stand back and smile. You can always re-arrange it if you don’t like how it turned out.
Happy Day
