There’s something about the arrival of fall that’s unlike the changing of the other seasons…perhaps it’s the fresh start of a new school year that occurs at the same time, or the dramatic colors that burst forth from the trees, or maybe it’s just that crispness in the air that jolts us out of the lazy days of summer. No matter what it is, Autumn holds a special place in the hearts of many.
Fall also tends to mean putting away the white pants and shoes in favor of clothes in rich, warm tones. Without even thinking, it just feels right to dress in the colors that reflect the warm jewel tones that are emerging outside.
But why stop at clothes? Why not bring some of that new-found autumnal warmth into your living space, too? You don’t need to make big changes to embrace the colors of fall and transition your home into a cozy refuge ready to take on the new season.

- Switch out your candles…pack away the white and cream and replace with deep oranges and rich reds.
- Ward off the chilly fall evenings with throw blankets in autumnal colors…when not in use, lay across the back of a chair or sofa. Design with a (cuddly) purpose!
- Consider purchasing a few accent pillows in warm fall tones; reds and golds work well through the holiday season as well.
- Flower arrangements are a lovely way to bring fall colors into your home; not only do they enliven any space, they are an easy way to add a bump to any color palette.
- Don’t forget the kitchen…bring out any bowls or platters in fall colors and use them as accent pieces on your counter. Fill them with apples, oranges, gourds or mini-pumpkins for extra pop!
How will you welcome the fall season into your home?
