1. Rearrange your furniture. It’s free, so if you don’t like it, simply move it back. Start with the largest piece….oriented toward a focal point such as a window or fireplace…then work you way down….side chairs, tables, etc.
2. Paint. Just a quart of paint can transform any room. Go to your local paint store and look for inspiration.
3. Clean….yes, just cleaning up a space may be all it takes to make you fall in love with your place all over again.
4. If you can afford to change only one thing, let it be the windows. Hang curtains at ceiling height…for a huge change. I love to use bamboo shades from Lowe’s.
5. Restyle your bed. It’s all about layering to create a heaven you want to jump into.
- Skirt first
- Put on the sheets.
- Top the bed
- Lay a folded duvet- across the foot of the bed.
- Prop sleeping pillows
- Add an accent pillow.
I spend hours drooling over Pottery-barn beds.
6. Paint moldings and trim glossy white. The sheen and crisp color makes everything seem fresh and grander.
7. Buy baskets of all shapes and sizes. Michaels has a good selection of baskets….look for their coupons that’s in most Sunday newspapers.
8. One of my favorite things to do is to find something old…or heading for the junk pile. Spruce it up a bit and use it in unusual ways.
