Learning how to decorate a wreath for Christmas is easy to do. There are just a few tricks to having your finished wreath look like it just came from a high end florist.
Before you begin, purchase a 30″ artificial wreath. If you want your wreath to look full, spend a few extra dollars and buy a good wreath that has a lot of branches.
Additional items you will need for your wreath…
- 4 high quality glittered poinsettias
- 6 Gold berry picks
- 2 Bolts of beautiful holiday ribbon (10 yards each)
- Green Florist wire
Start with a simple bow and continue attaching the ribbon around the wreath using floral wire.
Wire in the poinsettias and the gold picks — it’s that easy.
Here’s a trick to get that fresh from the greenhouse look.
When the wreath is complete take some real greenery and cut it into pieces and insert it into the wreath. When your guests arrive they will think that you have a fresh wreath on your front door. When the holidays are over, remove the greenery and store the wreath until next year. When it’s time to put the wreath back up add more fresh greens. This is a trick I’ve used for years. You will be amazed how this can change the look of an artificial wreath.
If you have double doors, make sure the bows are placed in the opposite directions.
For a custom look, hang your wonderful creation with a matching piece of ribbon. Just cut a long piece of matching ribbon and loop it around the wreath. Attach the ribbon to the top of the door with two flat head thumb tacks. Remove the thumbtacks when the holiday is over. It’s just that easy!

So simple and so clever! This deserved stumbling!
I used this post as inspiration to make my own wreath last night. I LOVED the tip about using some live greens – it totally covered up the fake green and made it look so much nicer!
