I love little “powder rooms.” It is fun finding inventive and unexpected touches to “pretty up” a powder room.
Here are some of my favorite things to do:
- Change out the light fixture to something special- a small chandelier, lantern or modern fixture. Think of your light fixture as your single most important accessory. Something akin to a great pair of shoes
- Dress the inside of the room like you would a vintage cabinet. Use wall upholstery or heavily patterned wallpaper. I love to make the vanity from an antique console or chest of drawers. Add a marble top with an under mount sink.
A tiny powder room benefits from a bold stripe, an over-scaled pattern, or a dark or a completely unexpected color on the walls.
The fun thing about powder rooms….you can do just about anything with them.
I love themes; unexpected themes. Here I’ve taken out the towel bar and added crown molding shelves with mementos of places we have traveled to.
For something inexpensive but fun, fill all sorts of small vases in different shapes and sizes with flowers. Use flowers that are all of the same color and type.
Tiny powder rooms are great places to display items you collect-
- Clocks
- Vintage mirrors
- travel mementos
Here’s a question for you- “What do you do to pretty up your space?”
Have a wonderful day.

I definitely need to pretty up our powder bath. I have done NOTHING in that space since we moved in a year ago, other than hanging two prints. Blah! Maybe that will be my next project!
mmm, powder rooms are on my mind lately. Still trying to choose a color for our tiniest bathroom (something airy & fresh). I love all of your bathrooms – they have such style!
Great ideas, you really know how to make a bathroom fun.
You did a nice job Teresa with your web site , Look like Everything you touch turn to Gold
So inspiring! I used a vintage mirror in my tiny powder room and put 3 of my favorite vintage dessert plates on the wall!
