If you are not lucky enough to have a home filled with architectural interest, sometimes adding it can be beyond your building skills — or pocket book.
That is why I’m always on the hunt for discarded architectural pieces.
Like these pieces of wood molding from an old church.
It’s rewarding to reinvent something that might otherwise be thrown away. When I look at an object, I always things of its hidden uses, and what I might make of it.
- Just a little paint and a hook — and what once was headed to the trash now finds a spot in my home.
- I see them all lined up in a bathroom with crisp white towels hanging from them.
- Or in a laundry room — used to hang freshly ironed clothes
- Backpacks, baskets, wreaths, well the list go on of the things that could be hung from them.
An architectural piece like this adds age and character. I think every home should have something of age and character in it. {and not just the people who live there. =}
The fun thing about reinventing a “retrieved” object is you never really know what it will be until it’s done. Hence the mystery and fun!
What do you have lying around your home, yard, and garden that you can reinvent? Let the hunt begin.

I love this idea! We live in a house that is over 120 years old. At some point, someone removed the glass cabinet doors on our built in hutch in the dining room. I’ve found 2 of them stuck in the back of a closet and now they’re sitting in my basement waiting for a coat of paint. I can’t wait to hang them on the wall as “art”!
I love it. Thanks for the great idea. I would never have thought of that – I guess I’m stuck “in the box”
I love them! You are so creative!
so cute. I think I’ll have to hunt some old pieces down too!
I need to follow you around. Wish I had treasure laying around this place.
Wonderful idea! You are so talented and creative. I would like to follow you around for a day too, but probably wouldn’t be to keep up with you! Your mind must be going a hundred miles a minute. I think I must be pretty close to brain dead! Have a great day and great spring!
I LOVE them, it’s making me giddy, are really so good!
GREAT IDEA!
Those are so great! For a while my aunt, an interior decorator and chronic collector, was collecting old bits of wrought iron gates, particularly from France. (Yes, a bit esoteric…) These remind me of her!
Brilliant idea – love it
What a beautiful idea. Where can I find treasures like that?
