When children leave for college, there is no limit to the decorating possibilities for their empty bedrooms. Transforming a bedroom into a home office is a popular option. With some rearranging and redecorating, the bedroom can be quickly transformed into a stylish home office/guest room full of your favorite metal wall art sculptures and collections.
Pack It Up
Pack up childhood mementos in large plastic bins labeled with the college student’s name for safe keeping. This will free up space in the room. Although the bed will need to stay for when the child returns home on breaks and for visiting guests, consider moving other furniture out to accommodate the home office desk. A refurbished armoire is a good replacement for a chest of drawers: It can hold office supplies and internet wireless hub as well as bedding, towels and guest essentials.
Paint
Repainting the bedroom is the next step in transforming it from teen bedroom to home office. Opt for a calming color that is also appropriate for a guest room. Picking a color that also matches the material of the office chair or other office accessories is a great start.
Decorating
With newly repainted walls and more open space, it is time to decorate. New curtains that match the paint and office furniture are a must. Contemporary wall decor, like abstract canvas art or trendy black coffee wall art takes the room from bedroom to modern dual-purpose office/guest room space.
Have fun transforming the bedroom into a home office. Adding office function while maintaining space for a guest or student home on semester break, will make the room more appropriate and useful for this stage of your family’s life.
