I may be biased in my subject matter today! How could I be otherwise? I write this from the reclined position of an Adirondack Chair, the sound is of palm fronds rustling in the sea breeze, the air is warm and the sky is perfectly blue. Today is an idyllic day on the coast of Southwest Florida and I am enjoying my favorite of remodeling projects, the outdoor room.
When the weather is good, any room can be brought outdoors. I dream of a time in the future when I will be at the end of the long remodeling road ahead and my house will have a third floor rooftop porch (called a “widow’s walk“). I plan for that area to have actual sleeping arrangements so that we can snooze the night away under the stars and awake to the sunrise reflecting on the Harbor. That will be nice, but is in the future years. What may be sooner is an outdoor shower, or maybe a whole bathroom! Take a look at this picture:

Isn’t this spot just perfect! I love so much that is going on here! What a way to save an old claw-foot tub! I love the hand painted pattern on it and the great colors that invoke the sea and surf. Notice how the sink drain just runs into a flexible hose which runs off and waters a nearby vine. This makes it simple and if all you’re doing is washing-up in this it’s not harmful to the environment. In fact, it saves water!
And the fixtures themselves are so simple! The freedom of creativity that comes with using old fixtures is a blast! You could even incorporate some toile, like the fixture Pretty Organizer picked out for me!
A couple of weeks ago, right here on Blissfully Domestic, I wrote about Trellises and Pergolas which are a great place to start for outdoor living. Check it out here.
I have a quick post up at Remodeling Guy promising a whole summer of outdoor living ideas. I just love this stuff and, like most boys, would live outside if I could! Have a great day/night/morning…whatever the case may be!
