If you are like me, you are always forgetting what needs to be done; and when it needs to be done in the Garden. So here’s a little reminder for those of you who live in Central California or like zones.
January-
- Choose and plant Bare Root Fruit trees and Vines
- Dormant spray Fruit Trees and roses with copper and oil.
- Prune dormant Trees, Shrubs, Roses and Crape Myrtles.
- Plant late crop of Onions and Garlic
- Last chance to plant Sweet Pea seed for spring bloom
- Blooming Primrose are in for late winter color
- Best selection of new roses are out.
For February-
- Dormant spray Fruit Trees, shrubs and Roses.
- Plant Potatoes, Asparagus, Strawberries and Rhubarb.
- Renovate, re-seed and plant new lawns.
- Mulch Camellias, Azaleas and Rhododendrons with Gardener and Bloome’s acid planting mix.
- Spray flowering trees with “florel” to prevent fruit.
- Fertilize lawns with pre-emergent fertilizer to control summer weeds
- Apply Greenlights ‘Amaze’ pre-emergent to flower beds.
Happy Gardening.

Great tips and reminders….I need you close by, I have one for my area, I guess I need to pull it out and see what I should be doing, its just been so cold here (harder winters this year) that I wonder if spring will ever come.
You are officially GREEN THUMB-elina! I never knew ANY of the products listed in February existed… and that’s probably why I have dead plants, flowers and a lawn that’s struggling
Florel… Pre-emergent fertilizer… for lawns AND flower beds? ! WHO KNEW?! I love that you’re always on the forefront of anything chic… and if it isn’t you make it that way! You can make anything beautiful… keep this stuff coming!
Time does fly, doesn’t it!
Thank you for the reminders.

Hey Teresa, I loved reading this and getting to know what I should do. I really have never dormant sprayed my trees. What do you spray with? Am I nuts or what? Want to know. Keep me up on what to do. Thanks, Lynn
oh, that would be so fun to be able to do these things, maybe we’ll get into a house soon
