I have always loved the look of a Rosemary Topiary but have never even attempted to grow one thinking it was just too difficult-but… thankfully… I was wrong.

What do you Need for a Rosemary Topiary?

• Rosemary plant
• 3 1/2 inch pot
• Good quality potting soil
• Plant stake {I like to use bamboo but any stake will do}
• Raffia, jute, string or twist ties

How Do You Build a Rosemary Topiary?

1. Transplant your Rosemary to a 3 1/2 inch pot containing a good quality potting soil.
2. In order to promote upward growth, prune the side shoots {I firmly pinch mine off but you can use a good pair of pruning shears to accomplish this}.
3. Stake the plant with the twist ties or raffia etc. and place in a sunny spot for 8 weeks.  Keep the plant well watered.
4. When your rosemary ‘baby’ reaches approximately 24 inches tall, trim off its main vertical shoot.  This will stop the upward growth and encourage thick side branching.  Strip all the shoots from the bottom two-thirds of the plant.  Shape as desired.  Keep your plant well watered and feed once a month during the growing season (summer months).
