Why I love Hydrangeas

I love hydrangeas for many reasons, some sentimental and some practical:
Sentimental:
- This is the first type of bush I ever grew
- Very romantic and old fashioned
- The official flower of Cape May New Jersey – a romantic town
- Depending on the acidity of the soil the flowers can be pink, blue, pink and blue or purple!
- The individual flowers are very delicate
Practical:
- They grow at an amazing rate
- Tons of blossoms cover the bushes!
- Even though they shed their leaves, the stems are pretty
- The flowers dry well and can be displayed for years
- They are hardy once established and are relatively pest-free
- The plants grow so large within a few years they look as if they’ve been in the ground for decades
- Hydrangeas lend themselves to a more traditional, colonial or Victorian landscape
- There are many varieties and new ones are being developed yearly!
What kind of flowers make you smile?

I enjoy the vibrant colors that mums give in the fall. It is my favorite season of the year and when I see mums they just remind me of it.
I love hydrangeas too. I didn’t know it was the acidity of soil that changed the colors (I don’t know much about gardening!). My mom has a bush that turned purplish pink. It was beautiful. I love them as wedding flowers too.
Dahlias also make me smile. There’s a dahlia garden in Golden Gate Park that is amazing!
I agree with all of your points, I have front yard full of Hydra’s…….in June they look magnificant!… Blue’s and white, purples, and they are very low maintenance!
My favorite all weather flower!
