Whether you are entertaining for a crowd, trying to impress the in-laws or simply enjoying a quiet dinner at home with your family, nothing creates a more relaxing scene than a beautifully set table.
The Linens
You don’t have to go with expensive, fancy linens to make an impact. Watch for sales & clearance (especially around the holidays – you’ll be amazed at the neutral options available), and be sure to check the washing instructions. You want something pretty enough to impress your guests but durable enough to survive the children.
The Centerpiece
Soy candles can add a lovely element to your centerpiece. They are made of a renewable crop and last nearly twice as long as traditional paraffin candles. Beeswax candles are an all-natural, sustainable alternative to traditional candles. Both soy & beeswax will last longer, burn cleaner and made of renewable materials.
If you want to have fresh flowers on your table, select sustainable cuttings like zinnias – the more they are cut, the more they propagate! You can even plant flowers for cutting in your own garden to use whenever you need to fill a vase. Use potted plants on the table, as they can be added to your garden later. Or, create a display of bamboo – it’s supposed to be lucky in addition to completely sustainable.
Choosing Bamboo
Bamboo is amazing – did you know it can grow up to 2 feet per day? It truly is one of the most sustainable materials you can use. In addition to the gorgeous, green, living plants, you can buy bamboo serving spoons, spreaders, dishes and even linens!
The best part is, unless they happen to be fellow green freaks, your guests won’t notice anything other than a gorgeous place setting! You can be confident that everything is green & natural, while your guests will only see how beautifully you’ve set the table.
