This week’s are things you can do to go green for free.
1. Get rid of junk mail! Check out this site to learn how. http://www.obviously.com/junkmail/
2. Recycling rarely costs money and can really cut the amount of trash your house produces.
3. Reduce the amount of plastic bags that you throw out. When you only have one or two items turn down a bag. You can also reuse the bags as trash can liners, donate them to some charities, or recycle them at some stores.
4. Turn out the lights. Always remember to turn off lights you aren’t using. Maybe even turn off the lights for a nice candle light dinner or use sunlight during the day.
5. Unplug unused appliances. They draw what is called vampire power and this will save you a lot of money over time.
6. Start walking. Walking or riding your bike on short trips will help your health and save a lot on your gas bill!
7. Reuse what you can. Before you throw something out thing if you could use it for something else or if someone else you know could use it.
8. Go paperless for all your bills.
9. Cook from scratch. Packaged foods are rarely good for us and cost a lot more. Cook as much from scratch as you can.
10. Buy in bulk. This will also often save you money and will save on packaging.

I started buying mesh produce bags (they have them in the produce section of my WF market. When I do use a plastic produce or bulk bag, I wash them, dry them and stick them back in my re-usable shopping bags. There are times when the bag gets gross and needs to be thrown away. But I think it helps.
Georgine: That’s great! I love cloth produce bags.
