Check back every Monday for more tips!
1. When landscaping choose native plants.
2. Recycle your motor oil! Just one gallon of motor oil in a storm sewer can contaminate one million gallons of water in rivers and streams. Places like Auto Zone and Jiffy Lube accept oil for recycling.
3. Don’t bag your grass. Grass breaks down quickly and can prove 25% of a lawn’s fertilizer needs.
4. Turning down your heating thermostat by 1 degree can save up to 10% on your fuel bills.
5. Buy a rain gauge to track when you need to water.
6. When refilling your pets water use the old water to water plants.
7. Turn off your extractor fans! Once they have done their job turn them off, if left on for an hour they can empty all the heat in your home.
8. Use a slowcooker! They use less energy to cook for than a stove or oven.
9. Swap your old book. With sites like Paperbackswap you can trade your old book in for another used book.
10. Take your own containers with you when you go out to eat to put your leftovers in.

Thanks for the great tips! I am going to try really hard to start doing the last one. I am going to put containers in a reusable bag and leave them both in my car. Hopefully this will help remind me.
Where we live baseball and softball season don’t end until July and soccer doesn’t end until May. We have to stay hydrated and take our assorted large, reusable water bottles to games. Despite the heat we almost never finish the water so when we return home I empty the water bottles into my pots outside. It makes a difference when you have 4 games a week plus practices. This helps me to think about my plants more freq and to note how dry they are which prompts me to water better. I have been rewarded with healthier flowering pots and I feel better knowing that I am not pouring water (and money) down the drain.
