I have hard floors in my entire home and some of it is that this-house-used-to-be-a-rent-house cheap linoleum stuff. The kind that shows every speck of dirt and doesn’t clean well. We’re in the process of changing this, of course, but in the meantime, the Bissell® Steam and Sweep may save some of my sanity when it comes to cleaning the floors with these busy kiddos of mine.
Comparing Bissell® Steam and Sweep to Haan® Slim and Light
I’ve previously reviewed the Haan Slim and Light Steam Cleaner so I was very interested to see how the Bissell® would compare. My biggest complaint with the Haan was the need to meticulously sweep ahead of time, or even sweep, then mop, then use the steam cleaner. It was one more thing to do.
How did the Bissell Steam and Sweep Perform in my Kitchen?
The Bissell Steam and Sweep really helped me solve this problem by adding a very handy vaccuum feature with the dry brush in the front. I used this bad boy in the kitchen and it sucked up the cheerio (from my oldest son), the pizza crust crumbles (from the toddler), the dried leaves (from their adventure feeding the animals with dad this morning) and the tiny pixi stick wrapper pieces from Halloween festivities. The Bissell® picked up everything except the lost puzzle piece (thank goodness) and the steam mop portion picked up the spilt cappuccino. In the same pass!
Additional Features of the Bissell Steam and Sweep
Another feature that the Bissell Steam and Sweep adds, that I really appreciate, is the water purification filter for the water coming out of the water reservoir. If you’re using this in an area with hard water, or well water and mineral deposits, you’d really appreciate this addition.
I’m thrilled with this Bissell’s performance. I didn’t expect to be this excited. But with Adam about to hit the crawling and eating every stage, I’m really relieved to be able to just grab ONE floor cleaning device and replace both the broom and the swiffer wet jet in one fell swoop. While I may still need to use elbow-grease for hard stains, I can tell the Bissell® Steam and Sweep will get a lot of use in my house.
What Readers Need to Know Before Buying
The profile isn’t as low as the steam cleaner I’ve used previously, so I had to push my coffee table out of the way in the living room, but I would do that to sweep the floor anyway. The fact that I could use the Bissell Steam and Sweep without having to sweep the floor first, totally made up for that effort. The swivel head was handy, but did take a little bit of getting used to.
And, this is a really picky thing, but the Bissell Steam and Sweep has a blue foot-push button in the top corner of the unit that you push to detach the dry collection bin. It’s in a similar position as the power button on many older vaccuum cleaner models so not once, not twice but THREE times I mashed that thing to “turn it on” only to pull it apart. Stop laughing – it could have happened to anyone. I will get used to it, I know, because the Bissell Steam and Sweep will be getting a lot of use in my house. This time next week I’ll be a pro.
Be sure to pick up extra cleaning pads when you buy this. It comes with two but I will go through them faster than that I think. Just toss ‘em in the laundry to clean them and switch them out when you need a new one. Eco-friendly compare to the use-em-and-toss-em mop pads I had been using until now.
A Bissell® Steam and Sweep was provided for Blissfully Domestic for review purposes but the kitchen mess and crawling baby are all mine.
