My grandma use to ask me all the time… “boy, were you born in a barn?” No, ma’am, I’d say, and she would then remind me to close the door that I’d left open. Usually a door from the house to the outside, which is where I spent my time. The house was for bathroom breaks only, which brings up the other use of the phrase “the barn door is open,” but we won’t go there.
Of course, I’m talking about remodeling, because that’s what I do. See:

I saw this picture today at BHG.com and it got my attention. Not really beacuse I just LOVE it, because I’m not loving the hardware. It got my attention because I’ve read the term Barn Door a number of times over the last few days in my comments and that’s what they say this is.
Wall Mounted Sliding Door
I wrote a post a few days ago about some cool new hardware for wall mounting a sliding door. Here is a picture of what that looks like:

Personally, I prefer this look. I like the idea of covering up the sliding door hardware. This new hardware from Johnson Hardware is much more “residential” in scale too which makes it much more user friendly for the DIY’er and less costly if you want to hire a pro.
So what do you think? Do you like the traditional “Barn Door” hardware, or the less obvious hardware shown above?

Many fancier barns would also hide the hardware with a nice piece of trim! I like the first door but the second one’s hardware, definitely!
I love these doors. I actually like the hardware! In the right house I think it is cool. Other houses would need to hide it to make it fit in better.
I did a post on hanging old doors like this, here is it if you want a couple more examples!

I like the first door, but with the trim covering the hardware. Although I agree with Melissa that in the right house it might look ok, but probably not in mine. Plus, I think the second one would be easier to clean, but that might just be me.
