It’s that time of year when we start to think about our patios, now that the weather is starting to show signs of warming up. We yearn to head outdoors to enjoy our yards. It’s easy to picture ourselves watching the blossoms bud and bees buzzing. To extend our time outdoors, a patio fireplace does the trick. Lounging by a cozy fire enjoying the crisp breeze, looking up at the star lilt sky, is the perfect place to linger and enjoy such a glorious time.
Create Your own Fireside Retreat-
If a full-fledged fireplace and chimney are outside your budget, then consider smaller, less- expensive options, such as chiminea or portable prefab firebox, found at many garden and home-improvement stores.
This fireside retreat is basically a hole dug in the ground and lined with stone- benches and trees were added to give a cozy private feeling.
Fire and Water Side by Side-
Four Ways to Improve a Patio-
- Choose lightweight seating that can easily be moved around. Place it in front of a fireplace or fire pit.
- Keep plantings simple by sticking with two colors.
- Use materials that bring a sense of history to a new space. Something weathered that adds color and pattern.
- If you can’t afford to put in a fireplace, try a fire pit. It’s a less expensive way to cozy up your patio.
With spring in full swing, what better way to celebrate the cool evenings than to set aside a place for enjoying it?
{remember, the same rules apply with an outdoor fireplace as with an indoor one, check your local areas for guidelines.}

Our new house that is being built — has a back patio and I was planning putting a fireplace some what like your fist photo. It will also be screen-in so I will get the most use — since it snow here!
Gorgeous post! I have so many ideas filed away for “when we don’t have babies”…
