If your community is anything like mine, all of the fireworks, parades, and picnics are happening on Saturday or Sunday. This is perfectly fine with me, I have a honey-do list a mile long. Of course, honey-do may be just a bit misleading, as I’m the one who will be tackling a good portion of the chores.

- Cleaning the grill for a cookout.
- Making sure the summer portion of our seasonal home maintenance plan is on track.
- Performing some quick lawn furniture maintenance.
That would be enough for a holiday weekend and we could still squeeze in a parade and some fireworks. However the usual projects are on hold due to one of the children thinking it would be a good idea to swing from the towel holder.
Have you ever noticed that the way household projects follow the Give a Mouse a Cookie tradition, this has served as the catalyst for us to make-over the upstairs bathroom.
Our fabulous fourth of July long weekend to-do list includes: dry wall repair, wallpaper stripping, and painting. You’re jealous, I can tell. We’re taking tips from Teresa’s small budget bathroom makeover, but we’ll be going with a kid friendly theme. If the room had any windows, I’d be sure to pay attention to Linda’s tip to avoid fussy window treatments in bathrooms. (Of course, I avoid fussy window treatments in all rooms).
To keep the children from scattering their reading material, I’ll also be installing a recessed magazine holder and I’ll also be installing three hooks for the younger crew’s towels. I’ll be sure to anchor them to wall studs, just in case the Spiderman wannabe has any more bright ideas.
If you won’t be spending the entire weekend celebrating the Fourth of July, will you be tackling any projects?
Here are a few more weekend project ideas:
Indoor:
Rearranging Furniture – just be sure to keep the vacuum handy, sometimes the clean spots found under furniture can really stand out.
Outdoor project ideas:
- Weeding the Garden
- Improve your Flower Garden -in my case, it’d be plant a flower garden
- Perform a Curb Appeal Audit
- Makeover the Porch for Summer
- Pressure Washing
If you have a project for your long holiday weekend make plans right now. Go ahead and give your local home improvement store a quick phone call to make sure they will be open, too. There’s nothing quite like being neck-deep in a project only to find you’re missing critical tools or supplies.
Happy Independence Day.
