If you’re anything like me, cold temperatures (it’s been averaging -10 the last few days here in Ohio) inspire you to do one of two things: deep clean your home or burrow under the covers.
Yesterday, Hubs and I considered the latter of the two options, but were quickly disgusted when we realized that our bedroom was no longer the romantic sanctuary it once was and had become more of a catch-all. The space under our bed was home to scrapbooking supplies (really, I’m going to complete the baby book one of these days!), sports equipment, mismatched socks, and random toys we haven’t seen for a while. So why not make the most of these chilly days and get to work?
All it takes is a few hours and a little determination:
- Start with the closet. Toss (or donate) the things that are stained, don’t fit, or are just plain wrong. Not sure where to start? Turn the hangers in your closet so that they are backwards. In time, you will start to see a pattern of what items you actually wear and what items you need to purge. Make sure to do the same for your dressers.
- Wash the sheets, blankets, and curtains. While you’re at it, rotate the mattress.
- Eradicate the dust bunnies that are congregating under the bed and behind various pieces of furniture.
- Do you have any artwork that you have been meaning to put up. Why not rotate the pieces on the walls for a different perspective? What photos do you have in the room? What special, meaningful photos would you like to display?
- Return the kids’ toys to their rightful homes. I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to rest (and possibly be romantic with my husband) when the Baby’s life-sized Strawberry Shortcake doll is staring at me from across the room.
And, there you have it. Your bedroom is once again a restful sanctuary for the two of you.
What projects are you working on in your home, now that sub-arctic temperatures are upon us? Join me in the forum and tell me all about it!
