Being a tech head and professional organizer I am always looking for more efficient ways for me to stay organized digitally. I thought I would share some of my go to tools. Maybe they can help you as well to become more organized the tech way.
Evernote
The first tool that I would suggest is the best there is out there and it is free! You can’t beat that with a stick. It is Evernote and it has greatly reduced my sticky note paper clutter and helped me to get better organized digitally. The beauty of Evernote is that it plays nicely with almost everything. I can have my scanned files sent directly into it (more about this later), I can email info to myself, I can take voice memos and basically dump my brain into it and be able to retrieve it anywhere. Currently I am using it to write my blog post and keep up with interesting articles and facts via the web clipper. I also use it to keep all aspects of my life organized and searchable.
Fujitsu Scansnap Scanner
Now I have recently bought a Fujitsu Scansnap Scanner S1500 and have to say I love it. I previously wrote about my Neat Receipts scanner, but I needed something bigger to scan in all of my paperwork and that was not tied to the software program. After working with a client that had a Scansnap I decided to give it a try. I am not looking back. It does everything that I want and more. It even lets me scan directly into Evernote which makes keeping up with all my paperwork a snap. I can also use the included Scansnap software to organize my personal and business receipts, documents and other important papers into file cabinets that I set up within the program. The best part about it is that my documents are not locked inside of the program, but are accessible on my hard drive and thus able to be backed up by my backup system Livedrive.
Livedrive
Which brings me to my other favorite tool for organizing which is Livedrive. Livedrive is a online backup system for PCs and Macs. With Livedrive I am able to back up all the files on all of my computers automatically and also to have what they call Briefcases to access my documents from my computer and phone from anywhere. Any changes that I make to the file either from the browser or my desktop or my phone it will be synced back into the system. I love having everything in the cloud!
Springpad
Now I have also written about the greatness of Springpad also. For in depth review click here. I don’t put all my eggs in one basket. Maybe one day I will but not in the near future. I like having different options and I haven’t found that one online program that does everything. I like what Springpad offers in way of planning tools and clipping notes and ideas from the web. Like Evernote they are always making their free program better and there is an iPhone app to keep you connected to your stuff on the fly also. Since it is web based there is no software to install you just need a web browser and internet connection.
iPad or iPhone
Currently I use my iPhone for everything. To keep up with my schedule with Google Calendar synced in with my iCal and to access my phones to taking payments for my business. My iPhone is my go to device. But I am about to add one more tech item to the pot. In the next week I will be purchasing a iPad. I cannot wait! This will revolutionize my business and how I interact with my clients. Instead of carrying around a large planner and a laptop and various magazines and such I will have all I need on my iPad. I will be able to house my calender in a bigger form, do mock ups of client spaces and show clippings of organizing products from various retailers right on my iPad. I will also be able to do website mockups right on the iPad without having to haul around a heavy laptop or super small netbook that makes it hard to see their sites. The possibilities are endless. I will bring my iPad experience to my next article of how I am using it to stay organized in my business.
So there you have it my five tech tools for organizing. Now there are plenty more tools out there and more being thought up everyday, but these are the ones that I currently use and find helpful for keeping me organized and think it will do the same for you.

I see that you use both Evernote and Springpad. Is there a reason that you use both and not one or the other? I’ve been battling which one I prefer (currently leaning towards Springpad) but there are still somethings about Evernote that I prefer. That said I like having everything in one place so using two applications is what is really causing the main issue for me.
How do you find that you best you both most effectively?
Hi Martha,
At first I was using both because each one brought different things to the table. Springpad could be used in my browser and did not require me to download software and I found it a little easier to clip and save website information. I also liked how Springpad has lots of apps or templates that you can use in conjunction with it. However, I am finding that I am using Evernote more and more now that I understand all that it can do and different ways it can be used. I like having all types of information synced everywhere and the fact that I can have it open and jot notes even without an internet connection. So for certain web clippings and recipe organizing and such I use Springpad but for everything else I use Evernote. Sometimes it is okay to use two different programs to get the results you want plus all my information is still in one place technically because I am not duplicating information put into either program. Find out what matters most to you about keeping your information and then go with the program that is the easiest for you to accomplish that. I hope that helps.
Thanks so much for the insight! I use them both and have them sync with my DROID, but it is always nice to see how others use their tools, especially when it comes to organizing. I find I can learn so much from other people!
You will definitely have to keep us posted about the iPad!!! I want the iPad just so I can download the momAgenga app. I love the momAgenda so much i should probably get some of their advertising revenue! lol.
im getting an iPhone soon too. can’t wait! debating however with waiting for Verizon to MAYBE have it, or just switch over to ATT.
