As the weather warms up and the world begins to bloom homeschooling parents begin to rejoice. Kids that have been cooped up inside all winter can finally burst free outside and enjoy some much needed sunshine. If you want to add a little education to their rolling in the flowers here are some ideas to explore. Perfect for a warm Spring day.
- Join in the Green Hour Challenge with your kids
- Get them stared on their own Nature Journal
- Give them some seeds and help your kids start gardening
- Let them share all those wiggly bugs they find with some insect collecting
- See if they can come up with some ways to invite wildlife right into your backyard
Hopefully these ideas will inspire you and excite your kids to learn something about nature while out there enjoying it.

Great collection of ideas. Thanks for sharing! We had snow today which is wild and pretty unusual for Washington in March.
I am such an outside girl (even though I wear pearls and like my nails done!), and I really hope my children love being outside as much as I do. When I was scanning the homeschool section at the bookstore when I was pregnant with Amelia, I remember seeing a book titled something along the lines of kids today and their dissociation with nature. From what I recall of the book jacket, it discussed the problems with today's youth that had resulted from this dissociation, including health, mental, spiritual, and social problems. Some folks may say it's a stretch, but I definitely agree that most youth (and adults) lack time outdoors. I cannot wait to help Amelia have her own little garden and LEARN hands-on from that! (Among MANY other things!!) Thanks for linking to the other great ideas!
All good ideas. We plan to go to the local dairy farmer, zoo and really enjoy nature. My boys aren't of "school" age, but we still love going outside and learning.
