I am Blissfully Domestic

We Are Blissfully Domestic!

We are BD
What is the first picture in your mind when you read the words "Blissfully Domestic?" Is it Martha? Or June Cleaver? Or Bree from the first season of Desperate Housewives?

"Blissfully" – full of, marked by, or causing bliss (extreme happiness or joy)

What makes a woman 'Blissful' or 'Domestic?' Is it her ability to bake the most delicious muffins and scrumptious desserts and never burn dinner? Is it her perfectly cleaned house and manicured nails? Is it her well behaved children and adoring husband?

If I don't have ANY of those things, can I still be Blissfully Domestic?

For the past 9 months I have had the privilege of working with an amazing group of women. Women I have laughed with and cried with and shared with. And let me tell you we are ALL Blissfully Domestic!

We are married, single, divorced, widowed, attached.

We are mothers, grandmothers, not mothers, want to be mothers, don't want to be mothers.

We are neat freaks, barely keepin' it together freaks, Jesus freaks, or not.

We are those who shower, dress, and wear make-up everyday; and those who stay in our pajamas lucky to get a shower twice a week; and various levels in between the two.

We are women who sweep under our beds and women who name their dust bunnies.

We are women who have dirty dishes in the sink right now and would beg you not to look at our ceiling fans. Or not.

We are women who joyfully have tea parties with our daughters and play trains with our sons and women who are thankful for the 5 minutes of quiet after the kids go to sleep so we can finally take a shower.

We are women who take fabulous pictures and make amazing crafts and women who wish we could and women who think they're lovely but have no desire to do so ourselves.

We are women who welcome others into our homes at a moment's notice and women who live in fear of that ever happening.

We are women who run marathons, play sports, and go fishing and camping. And we are women who think a good marathon belongs on TV and camping means a 5 star hotel.

We are all of these things and much more but above all, we are women who love our families!

We are women who desire homes that allow every member of our family to feel welcome and safe and free to grow and be and dream and love and learn and share.

Domestic – devoted to home duties and pleasures; of or relating to the household or the family

We are women who plan and dream and aspire to be our own definition of better, stronger, wiser.

WE are Blissfully Domestic!

Blissfully Domestic is about to celebrate an anniversary of sorts and all through September we'll be asking you to celebrate with us. After Labor Day Weekend you'll notice a brand new look and layout making it easier to find the content from real women living real life you have come to expect from us. Articles, projects, and inspirations that encourage you in your daily life no matter where you are in your journey.

We don't always get it right. Sometimes we don't even come close. Our muffins aren't always moist and sometimes our children misbehave. But we promise to always share our journey with you and to offer you real advice and encouragement from women who've been where you are now.

It is our ultimate goal that you find something here at Blissfully Domestic that speaks to you as a woman and helps you on your journey though life. Sometimes its messy, sometimes its clean, sometimes it offers amazing treasures, and sometimes it scares me to death; but, we are all going in the same direction. Let's go there together.

    Katie -

So well said. I love the inclusiveness. And, for the record, I sweep it all under the bed, have dirty dishes in the sink, and am TERRIFIED of what's on my ceiling fan blades. I'm a barely keepin' it together freak most days. And I'm okay with that. I think. :)

  19. Looking forward to the new launch! I posted a link to my post today for Creative Bliss. It's about a way that anyone who sews or quilts (or even if you don't) can help those in need this holiday season. There are two projects going on but I would love to see if there are other projects to join (just add them to my comments). This is such a fun way to meet new bloggers!

I am Blissfully Domestic – Week 38

Last year, I noticed myself putting on a few pounds despite being fairly attentive to what I eat and being diligent with my exercise habits. I went to the doctor and I said, "Doc, something is VERY wrong with me." She promised to do blood tests but said to me, "You know… you're getting older [...]

I am Blissfully Domestic – Week 37

"I can't cook."
"I bake, I don't really cook."
That's what I say all the time. Baking brings me joy – crafting cookies, pies, and desserts? It makes me happy. I'm good at it. It makes me smile when someone compliments the texture of the brownies I've made, or shipping off a dozen cookies to a friend [...]

I am Blissfully Domestic – Week 36

In my pre-BlogHer prep, I got my eyebrows waxed. I performed several impromptu fashion shows up and down the hall ways of my house. I practiced walking down the stairs without falling over in my new shoes. I packed enough so that if someone asked me to relocate to Chicago while I was there, I'd [...]

I am Blissfully Domestic – Week 35

I have spent several hours this week designing invitations, folding them and stuffing them into envelopes. There was also stamp-sticking and envelope sealing and somehow I've managed to survive. The occasion? My baby sister is getting married in a few months, and I'm hosting a bridal shower for her next month.
I have never actually hosted [...]

I am Blissfully Domestic – Week 34

My daughters are three years apart which means that my youngest is just the age where she is starting to drive her older sister bonkers. She emulates her big sister – wants to be where she is, wants to do what she's doing, wants to go where she's going. In itself, that is adorable – [...]

I am Blissfully Domestic – Week 33

We are now a week into summer vacation and I have yet to decide who is having a more difficult time adjusting – my daughters or me. As a work-at-home-mom, I found my balance in the school year. I was able to weave my work schedule around my daughters' schedules. This allowed me to be [...]
