What are you hungry for?

Chocolate anyone?
How many of you have a stash of chocolate in your house? How many of you wish you did? Ok, who is actually eating chocolate right now?
Have you ever had that unquenchable need for that certain food
and no matter what else you have, it just doesn’t satisfy?
I had the need for chocolate today but my cupboard was completely bare save for a small packet of dark cooking chocolate. Since it was my last resort, I tried it.
It was awful! It left a horrid taste in my mouth and I will never settle for that again!
Sometimes in life you can settle for what’s close at hand, something that’s easy, acceptable or popular, but it’s not really what you need.
-
You try to fill the need for love in bad relationships.
-
You try to please people to feel significant.
-
You compromise your standards in order to be accepted.
But settling for that “something else” leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.
Jesus is the only one who can give you what you need. God made you and knows you and loves you. He is the only one who can satisfy your soul and quench that thirst.
Jesus was talking to a woman who tried to find love in all the wrong places when he said:
“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14 NIV)
When you decide to follow Jesus, you have His Spirit which brings fulfillment in this life and guarantees the ultimate in the next life – eternity with your maker. If you go to him He will give you what you need.
What are you hungry for?

Great post today, Donna! I definitely struggle with trying to fill the need with other “stuff” - when all I need is time with God!

Love the chocolate analogy! A good reminder to not settle for anything less than “the real thing.” Thanks!

With the exception of the picture of chocolate which almost made me cry (sigh…diet), this was a wonderful post, and definite “food for the soul”. Thank you so much for your words.
