Some research shows that it can up to 21 days to form new habits. It isn’t so much the amount of time that makes the difference, it’s the repetition that does the trick. It’s easy for us to stay within our comfort zone; but moving beyond our boundaries can help us form new and healthy habits which can have a positive effect on our mind, bodies and spirits.
Check out these 5 healthy habits that you can easily incorporate into your life:
- Physical activity – exercise everyday. Try not to think of it as a “workout session.” Instead, think of it like you would a relaxing walk or a scenic bike ride. The first step to overcoming the excercise stigma is to alter how we perceive it.
- Meditation/Prayer - get in the habit of taking time for quiet reflection. It’ll help you clear your thoughts, reduce stress and bring new clarity to the day-to-day trials we face.
- Drink water - make sure you drink enough water each day. It’ll make a splash of a difference in your health.
- Reading – it is easy to forget that our brains need a little workout now and then. Try finding time to read everyday. You may discover you have a love for literature or an interest in history or politics.
- Think positive! We all find ourselves struggling with pessimism once in a while. Try forcing yourself to see at least one thing in a positive light everyday. It doesn’t matter if the negative thing is a playground Mom who annoys you or your spouse’s sudden increase in hours, thinking positive–regularly–can help reinvent your attitude or outlook in life.
