Are YOU Beautiful?

Today a friend told me that I was beautiful!  Now you may be wondering what is so special and exciting about that?  Well this particular friend has NEVER met me in person.  He has never seen me and only knows me via the Internet.  So, this man tells me I am beautiful and I pause and then think to myself, “Hmmm, He does not know me, He can not see the extra pounds I put on since being unemployed. He can not see the gray hairs which dominate the right and left temple areas. He can not see that my nose is a little to wide…” (yes, this all ran through my head in the awkward pause).  So then I say, “Uh, thank you?”  He laughs and says, “What??  Don’t you think you are beautiful??”

Now right here I need to pause from this story.  On a regular day, I of course think I am beautiful, I mean I am me aren’t I?  But every now and then I have one of those days. You know the day when your clothes do not look right on you or you spot a pimple that no one else can see because it’s tiny but to you it’s a mountain on your forehead?  You know one of “THOSE” kind of days!

So I replied,  “What makes YOU say that I am beautiful when you have never seen or met me?”  His reply was interesting.   “I have visited your blog enough to know your mannerisms, to know that you love your family, to know that you love the Lord, to know that you feel strongly about right and wrong, to know that you love to laugh and I know that you are honest and speak up for what you believe to be right. So yes I feel that this makes me a pretty good judge of your character.  Therefore you are BEAUTIFUL!”

I had to thank him for getting my perspective back in order!  Beauty is so much more than looks, clothes, hair & makeup.  Beauty is what comes from within!
