If you’re not then you should be. Not necessarily all the time, but a little selfishness for a girl never hurts! Since I became a mother, I have struggled to take time for myself. I don’t know if it was due to personal guilt or a sense of unworthiness. But recently, I’ve begun to force myself to be a bit more selfish so I could take time for ME.
And what a difference it is making. I’m a more patient mother and I’ m beginning to enjoy myself without all the guilt. Plus, I’m more confident. I know I’m deserving of this time which only makes me a better mother because I’m taking care of myself.
Here are a few things I enjoy doing when I’m taking time for me:
- Read a good book
- Soak in a warm bath
- Enjoy a glass of wine
- Browse the bookstore
- Shop!
- Watch a great chick flick!
- Indulge in a bowl of my favorite ice cream or a sweet treat
- Take a walk alone and enjoy the quiet
- Spend time with a good friend
Being selfish doesn’t have to be a bad thing. We know it’s not doable all the time, but allowing yourself to be selfish, every once in a while, can make you a better mother, a better wife, a better listener, and a confident care giver. Remember give yourself permission to focus on you; you’ll be amazed at how much of a difference it makes.
