The Proper Foundation for Style
It’s a basic fashion rule that we don’t look our best unless we are comfortable and aren’t worried our clothes might betray us at any moment. It is difficult to project confidence while tugging up your strapless bra, tucking in wayward straps, and worrying about panty lines. You can avoid these confidence busters with a little help behind the scenes?
Perilous Panty Lines
Avoiding panty lines is vital, but some of us are just not comfortable in thongs, and going without isn’t so hygenic. The solution is to go the new commando.
Commandos are uniquely-shaped, cotton disposable patches that safely stick in the curved seam of your jeans, pants and workout wear. They are available in many different colors and sets, and their humorous and visual website is a treat in itself.
Bra Strap Blunders
Although showing bra straps was unbelievably once the rage, and some celebrities – not naming names here! – have made a career of wearing bras as shirts, for the rest of us it’s hard to rock your look if you are constantly tucking in or pulling up bra straps. Hollywood Fashion Tape has a product called Hook-Ups that keep your bra perfectly positioned if you are wearing a sleeveless dress or your top has a bit of a racer-back.
Why not just wear a strapless or convertible bra? I don’t always feel, um, supported with a strapless bra and I just don’t have the time to be switching out straps on bras most days. This ingenious little helper is just the thing to keep everything where it belongs. Just put on your bra and reach back and slip the straps through the holder.
Strapless Bra Bringing You Down?
When I do have to wear a strapless bra, I don’t want it to get me down. Literally. I recently found a bra by Fashion Forms that combines a regular bra with the silicone grip technology to hold you in place. Put it on, bend slightly forward, and arrange the girls to their best advantage.
Another popular solution is the Nu Bra by Fashion Forms. It’s a backless, silicone, multiple-use bra that adheres to your breasts. After a little practice, you can position it to provide perfect support with your most revealing tops or evening wear. The Sassybax bra has additional silicone straps that adhere to your sides for a little more stability.
Some Resources
Hollywood Fashion Tape, with their signature double-sided fashion tape, is a tremendous resource for the prevention of all sorts of fashion faux pas. They have nipple covers, bra strap extenders, sweat shields, bra strap cushions, itchy tag covers, and more. Who knew so many things could go wrong with your outfit?
Another good resource is Bare Necessities for bras, other undergarments, and my go to slinky dress tummy slimmer, Spanx Higher Power High Waisted Power Panties, without which I might only wear muumuus.

So do the silicone bras work for those of us who have bigger girls than others?
I love the Nu Bra, but for those of us who live in Florida, summer is NOT the time to use them. At least during the day. If you, um, perspire a bit it will fall off. I kid you not.
I also love the Hook-Up thing. I found something similiar in Target (of course I can’t remember the bloody name of it and I’m at work so I can’t check the box!). With certain fabrics a strapless bra will show; these take care of the straps on my t-shirt bra which doesn’t show through anything.
Thanks for the info!
Shannon: Maybe some of the readers with bigger girls can better address your question. I know they come in C cup sizes and I know people who are a C who wear them successfully, but I’m unable to provide you with a direct testimonial, unfortunately!
Finn: You are so right! Perspiration is not the friend of the Nu Bra.
heh. Yes I am bigger than that, so if anyone can attest to bigger than a C cup that would be fab.
Spanx are amazing. The best part is if you’re not willing to wear the Commandos in your jeans, you can use Spanx to get ride of VPLs. Plus it takes about 1-2 inches off of your waist. Can you tell I’m obsessed?
In response to the Nu Bra, they work best for women with a small to average bust. The Fashion Forms Infinity Bra does go up to a D, but beyond that it gets difficult. I’d stick with a strapless or convertible bra.
I am a Spanx and Hollywood tape fan!! Have been one for years. The uses for Hollywood Tape are endless- gapping, spillout prevention, cleavage protection, bra strap/tank top strap alignment, quick, temporary hem repairs…..great stuff.
Commandos is a great idea, but the price doesn’t work for me. I just use “light days” panty liners instead. Much more cost effective than the specialty item.
A huge garment saver and sweat protector is the use of disposable underarm dress sheilds. No more “rings” and a lot less dry cleaning! Really great when traveling to extend garment wear. I’ve tried this brand before but there are others that work well too.

Another use for pantyliners. A multi-purpose product. …who knew?
