As many of you know, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics is one of my favorite makeup brands to wear. Aside from being easy-to-use and complimentary for my complexion, Bobbi’s makeup was the first to introduce me to the concept of “simple beauty.” In fact, it was her team of makeup artists at the Scott Miller Salon and Spa that made me feel incredibly beautiful as they “oo’ed and ahh’ed” about how spectacular my skin looked.

That was several years ago and today, I’m happy to report I still feel every bit as beautiful as I did that day. So, naturally when the opportunity arose for an interview with Bobbi Brown, I was ecstatic. How often is it that you can connect with one of the persons who have helped to shape the beauty you see within yourself?

In this interview Bobbi Brown, makeup artist and CEO of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, opens up about her “secret of the universe” and why it’s important for women to give back. So, pull up a chair and get comfy as we get to know the extraordinary Bobbi Brown a little bit more.

Question 1: On your website, you’re quoted “beauty isn’t about looking perfect. It’s about celebrating your individuality.” What would you say to the woman who says that wearing makeup is all about pretending to be someone you’re not?

There are no rules when it comes to wearing makeup. It’s about using makeup to express yourself and feel more beautiful and confident. I believe makeup should not be used to cover your features, it should be used to enhance them. The important thing is to ‘be who you are.’

Question 2: Recently you were the keynote Speaker for the Wise Women’s Conference in April 2011. How does it feel to partner with Wise and help women realize that their dreams can become a reality?

I love speaking at conventions like the Wise Women’s Conference because it gives me the opportunity to speak to amazing, smart women that are eager to grow or start their businesses and careers. I am all about empowering women and love the opportunity to speak with budding entrepreneurs and give them advice.

Question 3: What’s your favorite beauty product that you simply cannot live without?

Concealer. It is the secret of the universe instantly making you look less tired and more refreshed. If I am leaving the house and only have time for one thing I always put on concealer as it makes the biggest difference.

Question 4: What was your inspiration behind Bobbi Brown Bridal? What should blushing brides keep in mind when having their makeup done?

Bridal makeup is not the time to experiment or try a new trend. The pictures from your wedding need to be classic and timeless. The bride needs to look like herself at her prettiest.

Question 5: It is clear that giving back is extremely important to you. In a time where the “fend for yourself” mentality is increasingly rampant, what do you think that we, as women–a global, entrepreneurial force–can do to help combat that?
