If you’re looking for the latest runway look, keep looking. I don’t do runway. I don’t read fashion magazines. I don’t live at the spa. I break all the "beauty rules".
In the words of Baz Luhrmann "Do not read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly." I’m not up on the latest trends. Creme de la Mer only makes me think of Frutti di Mar, a butter laden seafood and pasta dish from a little Italian restaurant back home.
Real women and real beauty is what we will be discussing here at Blissfully Domestic. Let’s throw out the "rules" and have fun. We will share real solutions for the modern day busy woman. You will not find recommendations for $95 mascara or $150 eye cream here.
I break so many "beauty rules" that I am one of the ten most wanted women by the Fashion Police.
- I sleep on my stomach with my face smashed into my pillow.
- I’m a total pimple popper.
- I don’t moisturize every day.
- I sometimes don’t wash my face before going to bed.
- I get a haircut twice a year.
- I wear bootcut jeans.
BUT…
- I sleep well on my stomach and wake up refreshed, even though I have pillow creases on my cheeks.
- I am a total pimple popper so that you will never have to pretend to not be looking at that giant white head on my chin wishing you could pop it yourself.
- I don’t moisturize every day. I don’t really need to. I save a bunch on moisturizer.
- I sometimes don’t wash my face before going to bed, and I don’t feel guilty about it. If I’m tired and grumpy I want to go to bed. Period.
- I get a haircut twice a year because right now that’s all I can afford and all I make time for.
- I wear bootcut jeans because I believe skinny jeans are a cruel joke that is being played on women with hips everywhere.
- I wear sunscreen religiously, always try to smell good, smile more than I frown and laugh more than I cry.
These are my unbreakable beauty rules.

oh Moosh – I love you for this!! This is me to a *t*. I love how you brought it around to what really is important.

Oh my gosh yes. You totally just described me, except for the moisturizer. I moisturize every day, but I use Aveeno body lotion instead of fancy face moisturizer. And popping pimples… nothing worse than a big fat whitehead that’s gone unpopped. I’m afraid that one of these times I’m not going to be able to control myself.
And skinny jeans ought to be banned. Nobody looks good in them, not even skinny people.
When my daughter was first born, I was in total survival mode. I would rub astringent on the roots of my hair to take out the oily look because I was too tired to wash, blow dry, or primp. I thought this was pretty ingenious at the time
THIS is why I love you. You are true and simple.
MWAH!
Wait…can you really use astringent on the roots of your hair to take out the oil? Because dude, I must try this.
If I washed my curls daily I would be bald!
I don’t wash my hair every day. I don’t have time for the whole wash, dry, straighten, thing daily. Since my hair is totally brunette, the baby powder at your roots only makes me look like a hazy grey color. So I found that if you buy loose face powder for women of color…darkest you can get, it works just as well. Cheapest they make too..cause all you’re wanting is the oil absorbency stuff thats in it.
amen sister.
i have nothing to add, because you said all that has to be said. lol
I’m a stomach sleeper too! And I never moisturize my face or wear make-up. Oh, the humanity!
until recently, the only thing i washed my face with was water. no soap, no expensive cleansers. it worked really well until my body decided to revolt against me and turn me into a pubescent teenage boy…
I don’t wear makeup either and sometimes I feel so out of place among the other mommies. Thanks for making me feel “normal”! (lol!)
Sleeping on my stomach is what makes my life worth living. Right now I have a cold and have to sleep on my back or side. And life is hardly worth living.
ooh-ooh, I can’t wait for your next installment! This is right up my “beauty alley”! THANKS
I quit popping my pimples for a couple months because my Scarring Acne of Pregnancy days left me a little scared to.
The have not gone away. Not. There are still horrendous red marks on my face and they are making me crazy. No popping. Pshaw.
(PS – More Casey is always good.)
I love it.
