Beautiful. Healthy. Hair.
Over the past few years there has really been a big push for African American women to let their hair go natural. Even though, many women have kept their hair in a natural state since the 1970′s, it was not the “fashionable” thing to do. These women have had styles such as dreadlocks, brush cuts, or low Afros. To these women being natural was just a natural progression for them. Today, the natural look or Afro has made a HUGE comeback–it’s the “in” thing to do.
When I made the choice to let let my permed hair grow out and my natural hair grow in, it was based on a personal challenge: I wanted to see if I would really go through with it! People seem to think that going “natural” is some sort of statement and for some I guess it is. For some, going natural is the only option due to hair damage caused by chemical processing.
For others, going natural is just the next step in a natural evolution of self or it’s simply what their peers are doing.
Regardless of the reasons behind how you wear your hair, there is NO reason why your hair can not be beautiful in that state! And beautiful hair starts with: plenty of water, plenty of rest, occasional trims (natural & processed hair) and occasional head massages–these are key in keeping your hair healthy and beautiful!
Whether your hair is twisted, weaved, blown out, shaved or in a massive Afro what really matters is taking care of your hair! No matter how you wear it, if your hair is healthy it IS beautiful!
Be comfortable with your hair and yourself!

Wonderful job Jackie! And u know I’m digging the natural me. Until recently I hadn’t experienced the one thing I hear so many ppl complaining abt. And that’s ppl touching your hair. Since mine has grown it seems EVERYONE wants to touch it – not sure why. It doesn’t make me angry – yet. But it does feel a bit…ummm..invasive. Have u had that problem?
