How many times have we heard about products that promise to do things that seem to good to be true? How many times have you heard an “old wives tale” that made you stop and ask yourself: “oh really?”
This segment is all about debunking myths and separating fact from fiction.
- Sunscreen, the higher the SPF the better ~ WRONG. With sunscreen what matters is the ingredient. The most damaging rays to the skin are UVA and UVB rays. Make sure your sunscreen has zinc oxide to block both kinds of UV rays.
- Scrubbing the face keeps the skin healthy and breakout free ~ Definitely FALSE. Excessively scrubbing the face can lead to skin inflammation and can rid your skin of the oils it needs to protect itself.
- Facials should be apart of the skin’s regular routine ~ Not even CLOSE. Research suggests that facials and the like actually cause skin breakouts. In one study, almost 80% of the participants reported an acne breakout after having a facial or microdermabrasion treatment.
- Costlier skincare products are simply better ~ NOT TRUE. Many of the ingredients in skin creams are similar in structure and performance. Much of the less expensive products can perform at or above their more expensive counterparts. It’s just a matter of choice.
All I can say is WHOA. I can’t say I knew these truths upfront but it certainly makes for some interesting discussion. Do share!
