I was very pleased when I caught my first glimpse of Michelle Obama’s inauguration attire. For the inauguration ceremony, she wore a gold Isabel Toledo matching sheath dress and coat. She rounded out her ensemble with green Jimmy Choo shoes and green gloves from J.Crew. I was a bit concerned for Mrs. Obama, given some of her fashion flops in the past, (*cough*election night dress *cough*) but, for her first outfit of Inauguration Day, she gets it right!

First, Mrs. Obama finally hits it out of the park with fit! With so many ill-fitting choices in her past, I’m so happy to see her choose something that flatters her figure. The suit under the jacket is flattering to her curves, and helps to create and hourglass figure. The jacket fits her shoulders perfectly.
Second, the color. While bordering a bit on the mustard yellow side, I had mixed feelings at first. In some lights, the color casts almost a yellowish hue over Mrs. Obama’s skin tone. However, in most lights, the shimmering yellow is flattering against her face. I am leaning more and more towards liking it.
Last, I love the fabric. The shimmering brocade is an excellent choice for the inauguration. It is elegant, classy, and, dare I say, almost regal. To witness the swearing in of her husband as president, I think it is an excellent choice.

Moving on to her choice for the Inaugural Ball, again, Mrs. Obama makes a great choice in fashion! (She is having a great day!) Her white, Jason Wu gown is exquisite! The color is perfect for her skin tone. The skirt is the perfect shape and off-sets the widening affect of the asymmetrical shoulders. Well done and congrats to our new First Lady. I can’t wait to see what other fashion choices she makes in her new role.

While I think the Ball gown was okay…I totally disagree about the bedspread coat. Sorry!
I wrote about it here. Along with my dislike of Mrs. Biden’s street walking boots.

While the swearing in ceremony dress is not one that I’d want to rush out and buy for myself, it was a nice change from the usual Washington insider stuff. Totally dig the ball gown!
I agree, LuAnn. She looked great and it was nice to see something different, not the same old red or blue suit! And I loved the sparkly collar and that she was brave with the green shoes & gloves.
While I did like both color choices, I thought both outfits made her look hippy and the waist line of her coat unfortunately fell across her bust line instead of just under it. The ball gown was pretty, but made her look like she was going to the prom. I did love the green gloves and shoes!
I loved the day dres, but didn’t like the gown…shoulder was too wide and the fabric just weird.
