Like most people, I’m terrible at keeping new year’s resolutions. Exercise more, eat better, and call my grandma more often always fall by the wayside by February. This year, I’m focusing on instant gratification. One of the quickest way for me to look and feel better about myself has always been by getting a handle on my wardrobe. It’s a great way to declutter and de-stress and I think our closets say a lot about our life and current state of mind!
Here are three fashion-related resolutions that I’ll be tackling this week to start the new year off on the right (high-heeled) foot.
1. Replenish The Basics – Bright white and saturated black t-shirts, slimming jeans, crisp button downs, a timeless trench coat, and a little black dress. All foundation pieces of a great wardrobe. It’s a good idea to assess your wardrobe yearly and replenish what’s looking dingy or doesn’t quite fit, that way you’ll always have the makings of a great outfit on hand.
2. Organize Closets and Drawers – My closet looks like a boutique (in fact, that’s what my sister called it in highschool) and it gets overwhelming trying to decide what to wear every day. Commit to organizing your closets and drawers. Spend some time trying everything on and keep only what fits. Rotate newly rediscovered pieces back into your wardrobe, have items you love tailored to fit perfectly, and get rid of outdated pieces of items you haven’t worn in years. This includes that tangled mess of accessories, too!
3. Consider Trends Carefully – I bet that when I tackle “the boutique” I’ll find many ill-fated trends hiding in deep dark corners. Think of your newly organized wardrobe an opportunity to start fresh with your shopping habits. Consider the longevity of trendy pieces before purchasing to decide if they complement your existing wardrobe and are worth the (sometimes hefty) price tag.
Do you have any fashion resolutions you’re making this year? Any trends you are going to try to embrace? Any pieces you’re banishing from your wardrobe? Do tell!

Since October I have been doing project 333. It is a challenge about paring down your wardrobe and wearing only 33 for 3 months. This includes shoes and accessories. It has been eye opening to see how little I need in order to have an appropriate outfit for every occasion/situation.
When planning my list I made sure I chose clothes that fit me properly, that I liked, were in good repair and I felt good wearing. Now the first phase of the project is coming to an end I am re-evaluating all the clothes I packed away. I am going to donate/banish anything that I don’t absolutely love. The “just in case clothes” like the too tight pants or itchy sweaters that I never wear, but keep around.
Carrie – I definitely find myself wearing some outfits more than others, but only 33 items for 3 months is rough! I don’t think I could do it, especially in an office setting.
