We all know the benefits of sunscreen. We know the importance of putting it on our skin to avoid irreversible damage later on. We know that the sun’s rays are strong and harmful even on a cloudy day. And, we know that the higher the SPF, the better the protection. But what about our eyes?
Many of us wear sunglasses when we’re outside, but we need to understand why this is important. The sun can do damage to our eyes as easily as it can do damage to our skin. Long exposure to the sun can cause our eyes to develop cataracts or even cornea sunburn! Even taking certain prescriptions can increase the risks of sun damage to your eyes. Now, about those sunglasses…
Wearing sunglasses can easily help reduce the risks; but you’ve got to pick the right ones. Be sure to choose a pair of sunglasses that block at least 75% of the UV rays and cuts down on glare. Choose a pair that are comfortable to wear and don’t cause pain behind the ears or around the nose. And, don’t be afraid to choose sunglasses with a little bit of style. Who says we can’t be safe and look cute!?
