Purple – This Fall’s “It” Color
I’m sure you have read a thing or two about purple being the “it” color for fall. Purple seems to be a dominant color in all areas of fashion right now, but I’m in the market for a handbag, so let’s focus.
Is a purple bag a smart investment to make right now?
How can you decide if this trend is a smart buy?
It Has To Be Worth It
Never one to be swayed by the “it” agenda, I have been looking for a new investment bag in red, my personal fixation of the moment, but I keep coming back to purple. I think it’s growing on me.
The more I look at these purple bags, the more smitten I become. I believe the color purple will stand the test of time, and is thereby worthy of the considerable financial investment. Purple, like red, looks equally great with black and neutral clothing, making it a highly versatile handbag.
It Has To Be Quality
Seriously, a purse is a big commitment for me and it has to be right because I’ll be wearing it a long time before taking it out of rotation. While hardly a bag snob, every time I buy a less expensive trendy bag, I regret it. I always feel like I’m trying too hard and the bag quickly looks dated and worn.
I like a basic, classic quality bag that only looks better over time. I have used the same simple, dark brown, small Marc Jacobs hobo for over 2 years. Before that it was a Louis Vuitton Speedy bag that my husband gave me for Christmas. Also worn for years.
So, I am willing to embrace the purple handbag trend and have started my search.
The Contenders
I have never considered Urban Outfitters for buying a purse, but I found this one I really like by Sabina, and the price is right at $245. I love the handles, and it looks nice and roomy. I could fill that right up.
This Olivia Harris hobo from Piper Lime is pretty cute, but the price tag of $495? Not so much. I do have a coupon for 20% off though, and I can always sell the Louis Vuitton on Ebay to pay for my new bag. It’s amazing how they hold their value, but that’s another post.
This Michael Kors satchel from Nordstrom at $398 is a nice deep purple. I’m not wild about the MK logo thingy and I would remove it. All I can think of is Mary Kate Olsen when I look at that.
I think I will need to go visit all of them in the stores before I decide on one. And there’s always red….
If you decide the color purple might be your bag for fall, there are a couple of great sites to help you browse the Internet quickly. Go to www.ShopStyle.com or www.Like.com and simply enter the basics of what you’re shopping for, like “purple handbag”, or just “purple”, if you really want to embrace this fall’s “it” color.
Happy shopping!

Those bags are all stunning, though I can’t bring myself to even consider dropping $475 on a bag that will more than likely be covered in spit up, carry a dirty diaper or two and be ripped apart by a curious toddler. LOL!
No kidding. I’m a little past the spit up and diaper phase, though I do still guard my purses around my 5 year olds. They like to fill things with potions like birdseed, water and sand. Or worse.
What a timely post! I’m in the market for a new bag, too. I almost always carry a red bag, (mine just bit the dust), but I’ve been looking at purple ones as well. I love the Sabina bag….it’s perfect for what I want! I think my hubby would have a stroke if I spent that much on a bag, but I do agree that you should buy a classic quality bag! Good luck making your choice!
