When we were younger it was a rite of passage to keep a diary, a secretive place where we shared our most important feelings and memories. We shared intimate details of our lives with a most trustworthy friend. It was something we could claim for our own. It was personal–private.
The act of recording your inner most beliefs and desires isn’t just a school girl or secret crush thing. It’s a great way for adults to work through the stress of daily life. Journaling can help provide insights into ourselves as well as those around us. It also forces us to take time specifically for ourselves. We don’t have to share. We don’t have to include others. We just have to embrace the power of written expression.
